Introduction

Our objective for this WebQuest is that students can undergo a journey of self discovery through the use of both physical medias and 3D technology. To make a creation as an outward physical construct of a student’s inner expression. The creatures the students design and ponder upon will serve as a markers for pieces of their identity and will require students to think about what really makes them who they are. We also see the grouping of the students as a way for new opportunities to spark and creative combinations to be made through a mixture of teamwork, communication, and self regulation.

Prerequisites

  • Students must be able to understand the 3D technology process and work a 3D printer

  • Students must be able to understand the processes of developing artwork through Adobe Photoshop

  • Students must be familiar with collaborative projects and know how to be respectful and helpful while working with others

Objectives and Standards

Objectives

  • For students to look inward for inspiration on skills to determine art direction and creation

  • To give students experience with Tinkercad and 3D printing processes

  • Have students use teamwork and communication to create a single final project

National Core Art Standards

Creating:

Anchor Standard 1:  Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.

Conclusion

After students work together to create the ultimate creature, they then will have a better understanding of working with 3D technology and digital art-making processes while starting out working with Adobe Photoshop or the material of their choice, including Wacom tablets and then working towards transferring their ideas to the 3D printer. Students will also have had the experience of working and communicating together to make a finished product that everyone is proud of putting their ideas into. Most importantly, students will have the opportunity to discover what characteristics and attributes make something human, animal, or a monster and further discover more about their own identity.
